Frequently asked questions
How accurate are these calorie values?
Values are approximations for typical home preparations, based on standard nutrition references for Indian foods. Real dishes vary with oil, ghee, and portion size - restaurant versions usually run 20-50% higher. For tracking progress, consistent estimates in standard portions work well; small errors average out.
What is a katori?
A katori is the standard small Indian serving bowl, roughly 150 ml. It's the most practical unit for dals, sabzis, rice, and curries at home - far more realistic than cups or grams for Indian meals.
How many calories are in 2 rotis with dal?
Two medium rotis (about 220 calories) plus one katori of dal (about 110-160 calories depending on the dal) come to roughly 340-380 calories. Add about 45 calories for each teaspoon of ghee.
How many calories should I eat in a day?
It depends on your age, weight, height, activity, and goal. Very roughly, many adults maintain weight around 1,800-2,500 calories a day and lose weight at a 300-500 calorie daily deficit. For a personalized target, use a TDEE-based recommendation - DietTracker calculates one for you when you set a goal.

How do I track meals like this every day without the manual adding?
That's what DietTracker does: you describe your meal in one sentence - like '2 rotis, dal tadka, and a glass of chaas' - and AI estimates the calories, protein, carbs, and fat. You review the numbers, edit if needed, and save.
